How You Can Prepare for CVSA’s International Road Check

April 29, 2021

What is International Road Check?

From May 4-6, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will conduct their annual international roadside inspections. This involves CVSA-certified inspectors to examine commercial motor vehicles and drivers throughout the U.S, Canada and Mexico during a 72-hour period. Any critical vehicle and or driver violations identified by the inspectors will result in “out-of-service” enforcement until the issue is resolved.

What Hub Group is Doing to Prepare

With inspections coming spontaneously, this time-period traditionally causes capacity challenges and transit delays. At Hub Group, we’re committed to keeping your supply chain in motion. Through persistent collaboration, we’re working to stay ahead of potential challenges by:

  • Proactive communication with our carrier network to remind of the coming inspections and confirm capacity with customer forecasting
  • Advising drivers on what they can ensure before getting into the vehicle
  • Executing dynamic load planning, including pre-planned backup capacity as needed, while working with customers to optimize loading schedules to ensure commitment

What Shippers Can Do to Avoid Possible Issues

For shippers, there are actions you can take to mitigate potential challenges. These include:

  • Explore various, alternate shipping solutions – Hub Group’s multimodal expertise and brokerage services can assist
  • Factor in a longer lead time to properly source capacity
  • Embrace flexibility to your delivery date
