DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., Oct. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Hub Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: HUBG), a leading provider of comprehensive intermodal, highway and logistics services throughout North America, was honored this week with a SmartWay® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a true industry leader in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency.
Hub Group’s commitment to sustainability through its vast intermodal transportation network generated significant fuel and cost savings for its customers while reducing carbon dioxide emissions. By converting customers to rail, Hub Group can reduce emissions and fuel consumption because rail produces 65 percent less greenhouse gas than highway. In fact, freight trains are three times more fuel efficient than trucks.
“Being an environmentally sustainable company is a priority for Hub Group. We are honored that the nation’s top agency for protecting the environment has recognized us for our hard work improving fuel efficiency and savings for our customers and reducing greenhouse gases,” said David P. Yeager, Chairman and CEO of Hub Group.
Hub Group was one of 55 companies to receive this distinction, representing the best environmental performers of SmartWay’s 3,000-plus partners. The Excellence Awardees were honored at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals annual conference held in Denver on October 22, 2013.
“EPA is pleased to recognize the 2013 SmartWay Excellence Award recipients.
